What can we do to halt and roll-back nuclear weaponisation in South Asia? What role can we play?

In this connection, several of us have converged on the possibility of setting up an organization to carry on this job. This has been inspired by the signing of the statement on the Indian nuclear tests by several scientists across the country. Through such an organisation, which will be called "Indian Scientists Against Nuclear Weapons", we can express our opinions on this issue in various ways on a continuing basis. The very number of members that such an organisation has would be important, as it will serve as a permanent reminder of the number of scientists who are against nuclear weaponisation. It will deny any impression of a national consensus among Indian scientists for nuclear weapons.
WE INVITE YOU TO JOIN THIS ORGANISATION.
The organisation will be directed initially by an Organising Committee. In all cities and towns where we have members we can set up a local chapter. Each chapter will have one or two chapter organisers, based on need and convenience.
Where necessary, we can form more than one chapter in the same city (e.g. Mumbai). Once we are in a position to have national meeting we can elect a proper National Executive Committee for the organisation and frame appropriate bye-laws etc. for the same. We can also decide on the appropriate form of the bye-laws for the local chapters, regional bodies etc.
